One of our favorite summer concert announcements is here, Scenestar readers! The Hollywood Bowl will be returning with their 99th summer season, along with its neighbor, The Ford. The Los Angeles Philharmonic has announced its concert schedule, and there are a lot of exciting options once again this year.
The Hollywood Bowl 2021 concert calendar includes performances by Christina Aguilera, James Blake, Herbie Hancock, H.E.R., Brittany Howard, Kool & The Gang, Ledisi, Ziggy Marley, Earl Sweatshirt, Thundercat, Carlos Vives, Kamasi Washington, and many more. Also, the Los Angeles Philharmonic conductor—and Scenestar favorite—Gustavo Dudamel will once again make several appearances for orchestral performances as well as the annual KCRW Summer Concert Series will be returning with some of our favorite acts. More artists will be added closer to the general on-sale date.
The Hollywood Bowl will start things off at 4000 capacity in May based on Los Angeles County Public Health guidance and anticipates ramping up to greater capacity later in the summer as guidelines evolve. The L.A. Phil will kick off their opening series of shows with four free concerts for healthcare workers, first responders, and essential workers as a gesture of thanks for all they have done for Los Angeles throughout the pandemic. These include performances by Flying Lotus, P!nk, Thundercat, La Santa Cecilia, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic conductor Gustavo Dudamel.
As we previously reported, the Hollywood Bowl will present 14 weeks of concerts, and The Ford’s will make their much-anticipated season debut as part of the L.A. Phil family in late July and run for 15 weeks. The first six shows of the season free to the public. Tickets to these Hollywood Bowl shows will be available starting on Tuesday, June 1, at 10 a.m. via the venue's ticketing site (There will not be any venue box office ticket sales to start the year), but you can purchase subscriptions starting on Friday, May 14, at 10 a.m. for the best seats, up until Friday, May 25, at 10 a.m. Presales then kick off on Thursday, May 27, at 10 a.m. here.
