What is the best and worst thing about your profession?
The best thing is collaborating with incredibly talented people and forever being inspired. The worst thing is having to network when I’m in between jobs to book more work and the other non-creative/business-y parts of my profession.
What is something you didn’t know about Los Angeles that you recently found out or realized?
It takes less than a day to casually walk from Silverlake to Santa Monica (including time to stop for lunch!)
Where is your favorite place to eat in LA?
Absolutely love going to Little Ethiopia… Messob is great, as well as Meals by Genet. It’s tasty food, I never leave hungry, and it’s fun to eat with my hands.
What was the last good book you read that you recommend?
Just re-read the Spiritual Journey of Alejandro Jodorowsky. I read it at least once every year and each time it changes my life.
Have you ever seen a work of art that stopped you in your tracks?
All the time…Although one of my favorite exhibits I have ever seen was Marina Abramovic at MoMa. Seeing her in person when I was such a fan was amazing. And her retrospective upstairs was just incredible. Oh and James Turrell at LACMA, specifically Breathing Light and Light Reignfall…Oh and multiple pieces by multiple artists at Storm King Arts Center in Upstate NY…The common thread in all of these pieces is that they are immersive… They’re very meditative in that I am fully present in the experiencing the art. I love when a piece can transport me out of this world, and into the world of the piece itself. I also recently had that experience seeing the LA Phil perform Steve Reich at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
What is the most remarkable movie you’ve ever seen and what was it about the film?
2001: A Space Odyssey will forever be my favorite movie.
Name your pop-culture guilty pleasure.
My life is one big guilty pleasure…Some offhand include "The Great British Baking Show", "Bachelor in Paradise", and Taylor Swift.
What is the most underrated album you’ve heard and what about it is special?
Not underrated, but I don’t think enough people talk about classical composers like John Cage, Philip Glass, and Steve Reich, who influenced so many of our most popular musicians today.
Who do you think is the best rock star who ever lived?
What is the scariest thing you’ve ever experienced?
Not sure about EVER, but: Pretty scary to experience the fires in CA, and thinking about how they’re going to be happening more and more due to climate change, and then seeing ill-informed reactions from Trump, like this tweet, and then knowing we have at least another two years with this awful human.
Where is one place that someone can visit in LA for free that is a must-experience?
Self-Realization Fellowship at Lake Shrine
What is the weirdest thing about LA?
Valet parking EVERYWHERE. Also, WeHo is pretty weird.
