We have sad news to report this morning, Scenestar readers. Dolores O'Riordan, the lead vocalist of Irish alternative band The Cranberries, died today at age 46, as confirmed by her publicist. She was in London at the time of her death for a recording session.
As we reported last year, The Cranberries were scheduled to headline an all-ages show at the Wiltern on October 6, in support of Something Else, which features acoustic versions of the band's classic hits. The local tour date was canceled because of Dolores O'Riordan's recovery from her ongoing back problems. The Cranberries previously performed in Los Angeles in 2009 at the Novo by Microsoft (FKA Club Nokia) as part of their reunion tour and in 2002 at the Greek Theatre as part of their Wake Up and Smell the Coffee Tour. Dolores O'Riordan also had a show in 2007 at House of Blues Sunset Strip in support of her solo release Are You Listening?. Click here to listen to KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic, which is airing an early interview and live session with The Cranberries, recorded before the band's L.A. debut at the Troubadour. We send our condolences to Dolores O'Riordan's family, friends, and bandmates. RIP, Dolores O'Riordan.
We are devastated on the passing of our friend Dolores. She was an extraordinary talent and we feel very privileged to have been part of her life from 1989 when we started the Cranberries. The world has lost a true artist today.
