Over the weekend, Laist reported that legendary DTLA venue The Smell is set for demolition, with the venue posting on Facebook a photo of the demolition notice. And now the venue has written about the notice: "As most of you are already aware, late Friday afternoon, The Smell and all of the surrounding neighbors on our block received notices posted on our businesses, notifying us that our buildings are slated for demolition at some unspecified date in the future. Since we first posted about this on Saturday morning, the response from the community has been incredible and nothing short of inspirational. People from throughout the Los Angeles area, and from all over the country and the world, have responded with messages of solidarity, offers of support and their own personal testimonials."
It states: "We are still in the process of gathering more information (this news was dropped on us late Friday afternoon on a holiday weekend) about what this all means, what we can do to try to prevent or delay it, and perhaps most importantly, how much time we have left at our current location. We believe that we have a strong case to present to the city that The Smell should qualify as a cultural landmark, and that this should be fully evaluated and considered by the city before any demolition is allowed to take place. But we also realize that we will probably eventually have to face relocating the The Smell as a real possibility. As more information becomes available, we will share that information publicly."
