It's not rare for us to get e-mails and texts in the middle of the night with music news but the one we got around 1:00 a.m. last night was pretty disturbing. A source we've used for years just randomly texted, "No More Music Box =(". That did not compute in our heads and hit up everyone we could as to what that meant. This is the current marquee outside the venue and this is a write up on Lina Lecaro's L.A. Lush who wrote about the closure of The Music Box being a "reality". We are doing our own investigation but we do know that there have been internal problems such as the death of one of the owners recently plus some other things that have popped up since the "grand reopening AKA renovations but we NEVER expected this news.
No official word yet by the owners of the venue has been released on whether or not the venue is actually closed with no further shows to be played. We did confirm that the eight currently scheduled Goldenvoice shows are still a go as scheduled plus there is a new Wednesday dance night, funktion, hosted by Insomniac at the Music Box that is also a go as of press time so hold on to your tickets if you have them. We'll keep you updated on this developing story and REALLY hope that one of our favorite venues in Los Angeles, The Music Box AKA Henry Fonda Theater, will still remain open for business to continue hosting some of the world's best musical acts for years to come.

2ND UPDATE 1/06/2011 12:08pm at the jump:
A statement by Goldenvoice:
For Immediate Release
January 6th, 2012
At this time, it is our understanding that the closing of The Music Box is a short term closure, please be patient with us as we work out the details as they pertain to our previously scheduled shows.
A statement by The Blue Palms:
In light of our landlord losing their lease, we are in middle of the fallout. Ww are working very hard to work directly with the owner to resolve. The Blue Palms is a small company and in the world of sterile business, we are pawns. Please stay tuned, we love you guys and we are doing our best to convince the owners of our worth. Please help us in posting your support and we hope to keep you posted.
The Fall of the Music Box is a sad one. Let's just say the 'eviction' was brought on by the new partners and the one remaining original partner doing things they were not allowed to per their lease. Let's just say it all started when the original 3 partners were forced to take on the 2 new ones. That was what started the crack in the dam. From there, it went all down hill because the new partners sneakily acquired the controlling percentage of the business. I was a very close to one of the two ‘ex partners’, the one who unfortunately passed away, Marco Roy, and let me say, THEY DID NOT OPT TO SELL OFF THEIR SHARES. They were SQUEEZED out having % after % taken away until the 2 dooshy, idiotic, crooked (yes, their family name is tied up in so many legal battles their wrap sheet looks like Webster’s Dictionary) new owners had controlling power along with the last remaining partner who pretty much became their (deservingly) pleb. Yes, I KNOW THIS FOR A FACT as I witnessed it all go down over the course of a 9 month period back in 09'/10'. Shame on them how they did it. It wasn’t pretty. It was very sneaky. Well, KARMA is a B! They (and the last remaining partner) are getting what they deserve!!! Right on Karma!!!!
