Girls To Play Free Show @ Space 15 Twenty

Girls, the San Francisco duo, have one of the hottest shows this week at the SOLD OUT Troubadour. Did you miss out on getting tickets to the show Scenestar readers? Not to worry because you still have a chance to see Girls without paying high scalper prices! Girls will be playing a free show at Space 15 Twenty for their One Year Anniversary Celebration on Saturday December 5, 2009 at 3pm.

Along with a free performance by Girls, the afternoon with come with a soundtrack from DJs Joel Isaac Black, King Acre and Eastside Girls, Dez and Viv spinning all day. Space 15 Twenty will also have a 20% off sale including face painting, vegan baked goods and special giveaways and raffles! Parking at Space 15 Twenty is free with validation. For those feeling charitable, there will be a toy drive benefiting Children's Hospital Los Angeles so if you can bring an unwrapped toy to donate to a good cause. Phoenix To Play Secret Show @ NYC

Phoenix is not done quite yet with the US Scenestar readers because they're making their return in December. Before getting to Southern California to play a couple of radio shows, the Parisians will be stopping in New York for a "secret" show on Thursday, December 3rd.

Bomba Estereo Play Live @ Amoeba Today

Colombia's Bomba Estereo blew away the airwaves on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic last week and rocked out The Echo this past Friday but nobody said they were done with us yet Scenestar readers! Bomba Esterio's wants to say farewell to Los Angeles with a special free live show at our very own Amoeba Records in Hollywood in support of their latest release Blow Up.

The show is a free in-store performance by Bomba Estereo as a way to say thanks to Los Angeles fans for being such gracious hosts and for you to say goodbye for now. Click below for more info for their Amoeba performance and we're hoping to see Bomba Estereo back in the near future!

"Thanks for doing whatever it was you did to get here," quipped Silversun Pickups frontman Brian Aubert to enthusiastic fans at Siren Studios this past Sunday night.  What they did was take part in Kia Soul test drives for SSPU concert tickets as part of the Kia Soul Collective, a 3-day event which also included free musical performances from Diplo, Janelle Monae, and Fool's Gold. 

Fool's Gold impressed with their lush, tropical sounds on Saturday night, serving as a perfect opener that evening for fresh-faced hellcat (and Soul Collective co-curator), Janelle Monae.  The quirky Monae created a painting on stage, which she then tossed into the audience for a lucky fan to catch. 

Silversun Pickups closed out the very last night of the Kia Soul Collective on Sunday, plowing through tracks off Swoon and their breakthrough debut, Carnavas.  Although the band had made numerous local appearances throughout the week, the band didn't show any sign of fatigue or boredom on stage.  Aubert kept the tone light in between songs, even joking at one point that "We'll be playing a Carl's Jr. salad bar later on."

Silversun Pickups to Play for FREE at the Kia Soul Collective

 

UPDATE: Kia Motors has come up with a unique way to both showcase the new Kia Soul and the arts by creating The Soul Collective.  The interactive program will hit 10 U.S. cities and will incorporate live music, art installations, video screenings, and Kia Soul test-drives.

The Soul Collective, curated by Jeff Staple, Janelle Monae, Jonas & François, and Jeffrey Kalmikoff, is having its final stop in Los Angeles this weekend, November 6 - 8 at Siren Orange Studio (1050 Orange Dr, Hollywood, CA 90038).  Event hours are 12pm to 8pm and will include a variety of live performances. 

Tonight's acts are Pink Dollaz at 7pm and Diplo at 8pm.  Tomorrow will feature Fool's Gold at 6pm and curator Janelle Monae at 7pm.  Closing out the event on Sunday will be local heroes Silversun Pickups at 8pm.  All performances, save for SSPU, are free to the public and do not require a ticket.  However, entrance is based on a first come/first serve basis.

Vice Hosting 15th Anniversary Party Friday

It looks like Jonny Greenwood isn't the only one celebrating a birthday this week. Vice Magazine celebrates 15 years of music, humor and debauchery through the pages of its publication. A staple at our coffee tables, Vice Magazine is bringing more than just laughs when it brings its birthday party to Los Angeles this Friday, November 6th! Crystal Castles To Play FREE 21+ Show

So you missed Crystal Castles this past Halloween at Monster Massive? Not to worry Scenestar readers because Crystal Castles is still in town and playing a free show in Hollywood! They will be joined by Neon Indian and Hard's own DJ Destructo for a free promotional Soul Collective show presented by Kia at Siren Studios on Thursday, November 5th.

Vampire Weekend To Play FREE Show Sunday

So you couldn't get into today's "secret" Vampire Weekend show this Halloween? Not to worries Scenestar readers because you have another chance to see them free this weekend!

Vampire Weekend are in town in support of their new album, Contra and besides today's secret they will be playing a free show this Sunday, November 1st Sunday in honor of Dia De Los Muertos at 3:30pm at Hollenbeck Recreation Center's band shell in Boyle Heights. Get there early to get a good spot and don't forget your "pan de muerto" for the Dia De Los Muertos altar!

U2 To Stream Rose Bowl Show Live Online

 

So you missed out on getting tickets to see U2's 360° Tour date this Sunday at the Pasadena Rose Bowl Scenestar reader? Not to worry because that doesn't mean you're missing out on seeing U2 live this weekend. U2 have confirmed today that their sold-out concert at the Pasadena Rose Bowl will be streamed free on YouTube this Sunday, October 25th! According to U2, it's the first time a show of this size will be streamed live with the Pasadena Rose Bowl hosting its biggest ever audience of over 96,000 fans.

The Flaming Lips Set Up Shop In Los Angeles

The Flaming Lips are ready to set up shop in Los Angeles! No, they're not moving to Los Angeles to record but literally seeting up shop. The Flaming Lips have announced that they will open a temporary special pop-up store to celebrate the release of Embryonic here at the Montalban Theatre in Hollywood!

The store will only be open on Thursday, October 15th from noon to midnight and will sell unique, limited edition, one-of-a-kind merchandise, CD’s and other Flaming Lips merchandise including a possible performance by the ban. Starting this Tuesday, October 13th, you can go to Amoeba Music and get your pass to this special event with your purchase of Embryonic.
