Moving Units To Face Off With Kid Sister At Vanguard

 

Talk about your unique experiences! Los Angeles' own Moving Units will be facing off against Chicago's own Kid Sister on opposite stages tonight, December 16th, at Vanguard as part of Red Bull Sound Clash. Both bands will be playing at opposite ends of the club trying to win the approval of the crowd while probably driving the venue's sound guy crazy with the two ongoing performances. Tickets to tonight's Red Bull Sound Clash are $15.00 at the door for those of you 21 and over. It sould be a unique experince and your last chance of the year to see Kid Sister and Moving Units live at Vanguard.

Aimee Mann Adds 3rd Largo Date

We told you the shows would sell out but lucky for you Scenestar readers that Aimee Mann is feeling the Christmas spirit. Aimee Mann has decided to add a third date at Largo her annual Christmas shows! She will be playing her hits and music from her most recent Christmas album, One More Drifter In The Snow. The new Aimee Mann date will be on Tuesday, December 15th following the already SOLD OUT Christmas shows on Sunday, December 13th and Monday, December 14th at 9pm.

NOV. 7 | ECHO PARK—It’s always a treat when Echoplex plays host to disproportionately massive guests, and without the impediment of a 50-yard buffer zone, the live experience of local boys The Crystal Method can hurt in a good way. Tonight, electronica giants Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland dropped by Echo Park, bringing their signature breakbeats for a very intimate discharge of sound and fury.

I certainly did not expect The Crystal Method to replicate the same onslaught from out in the desert last April at Coachella, but the friendly confines of the Echoplex have some very mysterious, motivational qualities. The show was a promotional appearance made possible by the good folks at Avid and their vast range of software and hardware designed to cater to today’s digital musician and continue to “fuel the creative explosion.” The venue was only at about half capacity for the sneaky, quarter-to-eight, invite-only performance. Nevertheless, the clearly well equipped duo’s horseshoe platforms, overflowing with technology, warned that things might get rowdy.

Them Crooked Vulture To Play "Secret" Show @ The Roxy

Los Angeles is amped about the debut of Them Crooked Vultures on Tuesday, November 17th at the Wiltern, the same day as the release of their self-titled debut album. Now it looks like their public debut will take place sooner than later for the super group that consists of Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), Dave Grohl (Nirvana/Foo Fighters) and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin).

Them Crooked Vultures will now be playing a last minute all ages "secret" show at the Roxy Theatre in support of their upcoming self-titled release before starting their Deserve The Future Tour announced tonight on the Roxy Theatre's website on Monday, November 16th. Details on how to get tickets to this "secret" show are as follows according to the Roxy Theatre website:

NOV. 2 | SILVER LAKE—Just when you thought Monday was just like any other day, there’s buzz in the air about something big. Scenestar favorite Happy Hollows just returned to Los Angeles to start their November residency at Spaceland, and while updating the concert calendar for this addition, I noticed there was a subtle slot for a special guest. Usually it’s reserved for other local bands whom the residency band may be friends with. But the world of Twitter was hinting otherwise.

Aimee Mann Returns To Largo For 4th Annual Christmas Shows

Like the title says, Aimee Mann has returned to Largo once again for her annual Christmas shows! She will be bringing the holiday sounds from her most recent Christmas album, One More Drifter In The Snow. The Christmas shows will be taking place on Sunday, December 13th and Monday, December 14th at 9pm.

Tickets to see Aimee Mann with her special guests play at Largo are $38.00 and can be reserved over the phone by calling (310) 855-0350. With previous years guest performers including Jackson Browne, Ben Gibbard, Amos Lee, Ben Lee, Nellie McKay, Chuck Prophet, John C. Ghostland Observatory To Play Key Club

Ghostland Observatory is back in Los Angeles opening for the Flaming Lips a while back and choose to make it an intimate show! The band will be playing a headlining show at the Key Club on Thursday, November 19th.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, October 23rd at 10:00am with a special presale for Citi Card holders today Tuesday, October 20th at 10:00am. Ghostland Observatory will also playing down the road at House of Blues Anaheim on Saturday, November 21st. Ben Gibbard & Jay Farrar Add Date At Largo

When most bands add a show, they usually add another date to the same venue but how often do they downgrade? We don't mean it in a bad way either. Largo has announced that Jay Farrar (Son Volt) and Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie) have added a date to their more intimate venue on Thursday, October 22nd. Well, intimate compared to the El Rey Theatre which isn't too shabby either.

To purchase tickets for this Largo at the Coronet special event, just call (310) 855-0350 to reserve your spot to see Jay Farrar and Ben Gibbard's "One Fast Move or I'm Gone: Keruoac's Big Sur" performance. Tickets are $28 in advance and $30 at the door if there's any left.

Thom Yorke Secret Show @ EchoPlex On Sale Friday!

Whew, NOW I can officially let the cat out of the bag! The mystery behind the secret show can finally be revealed to all because the "rumor" is actually fact. Radiohead vocalist Thom Yorke will be debuting his new band at EchoPlex this Friday, October 2nd! The ticket link below supposedly goes live at 8:15pm so keep refreshing according to Radiohead's blog Dead Air Space.

If you check with Ticketweb though it says it's on sale on Friday at noon which we're guessing IS the actual time the tickets to the Thom Yorke EchoPlex show do go on sale. Tickets are $20 and there is a 2 ticket in Will Call limit 18+ with no ticket transfers according to the EchoPlex details about the show on their site. Sorry kids and scalpers.
