New Music Video - Lightspeed Champion "Marlene"

Lightspeed Champion has a new music video out for their single "Marlene" off their upcoming release Life is Sweet! Nice to Meet You. Currently Lightspeed Champion is not on tour but Dev Hynes has an ongoing photo and video exhibition "Hello, My Name Is Dev" currently running till December 19th in London.

"Thanks for doing whatever it was you did to get here," quipped Silversun Pickups frontman Brian Aubert to enthusiastic fans at Siren Studios this past Sunday night.  What they did was take part in Kia Soul test drives for SSPU concert tickets as part of the Kia Soul Collective, a 3-day event which also included free musical performances from Diplo, Janelle Monae, and Fool's Gold. 

Fool's Gold impressed with their lush, tropical sounds on Saturday night, serving as a perfect opener that evening for fresh-faced hellcat (and Soul Collective co-curator), Janelle Monae.  The quirky Monae created a painting on stage, which she then tossed into the audience for a lucky fan to catch. 

Silversun Pickups closed out the very last night of the Kia Soul Collective on Sunday, plowing through tracks off Swoon and their breakthrough debut, Carnavas.  Although the band had made numerous local appearances throughout the week, the band didn't show any sign of fatigue or boredom on stage.  Aubert kept the tone light in between songs, even joking at one point that "We'll be playing a Carl's Jr. salad bar later on."

Cancelled: Michael & Michael Have Issues Live @ Music Box

Bad news The Scenestar reader. Comedy duo Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter of MTV's "The State" fame who are currently on Comedy Central for their own show "Michael and Michael Have Issues" have cancelled their Los Angeles live performance this Thursday, October 22nd at the Henry Fonda Music Box (originally moved from the Orpheum Theatre) due to last minute scheduling conflicts.

It should have been good times for all but we at The Scenestar hope they come back in the near future. Refunds are available at point of purchase.

Contest: Untitled Movie Premiere + Afterparty

No Scenestar fans, they didn't make a movie out of Interpol's hit single. "Untitled" is the new Adam Goldberg comedy where he plays a brooding avant-garde composer that falls for the gorgeous owner of a trendy New York art gallery. We thought we'd give our readers the chance to catch a movie in between Los Angeles' crazy schedule of concerts so we're giving away a pair of tickets to see the Los Angeles premiere on Monday, October 19th at LACMA and to the exclusive afterparty!

The Decemberists have released a new music video created by two students at Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London, "The Rake's Song" off The Hazards of Love. The Decemberists will be making a stop at UCLA's Royce Hall for a special visual and musical performance of "Here Come The Waves: The Hazards Of Love Visualized" on Monday, October 19th. Hang The DJs Celebrates 6 Years In L.A.

There sure is alot of birthday and anniversaries this month and this weekend we celebrate a current Los Angeles institution. Hang The DJs celebrates 6 Years of bring the party to the Eastside and is about to pull out all the stops to celebrate their long existence in the Los Angeles club scene!

Devo To Play Two Nights @ Henry Fonda Music Box

Devo are getting the band back together for some interesting tour dates this Fall. Devo will be starting off their tour at the Henry Fonda Music Box for two dates, Tuesday, November 3rd and Wednesday, November 4th. Each night will have a different Divo set with Night One consisting of a performance of Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! and Night Two consisting of Freedom of Choice.

The Decemberists Bring The Hazards Of Love Visualized To UCLA

The Decemberists are back on Monday, October 19th at UCLA’s Royce Hall to unveil a special project, "Here Come The Waves: The Hazards Of Love Visualized". This is the Decemberists final American performance and they're making it extra special. The Decemberists will be collaborating with filmmakers Guilherme Marcondes, Julia Pott, Peter Sluszka & Santa Maria who have all created animation to accompany a section of the music that The Decemberists will perform the entire piece synchronized with the animation while also performing an additional set with older and newer Decemberists material.

For $37.50, some of the proceeds will be going towards the Grammy Foundation’s "Grammy In The Schools" music education program for high school students. Tickets for the Decemberists UCLA Royce Hall show that sold via presale today went quickly but you have another shot this Friday, September 18th at 10:00am on Ticketmaster.

Liberia Charity Event Today w/ Domingo 7

Today on September 10th, one of our Scenestar photographers, Amelia Tabullo will be hosting a Art Charity Event @ Gallery 1018 in Downtown Los Angeles with live music & local painters/photographers to help raise funds for the Strongheart Fellowship Program. Proceeds will go towards rebuilding a home in Liberia for orphaned kids who've dealt with the ordeals of civil war. (Currently the roof is being built, woo hoo!)

The Dead Weather Free Show Today @ Regent

With sold out shows left and right, super group the Dead Weather have been holding audience captive with the sounds of The Kills vocalist Alison Mossheart and the White Stripes' Jack White. Besides the shows at The Wiltern, The Mayan and Street Scene, the Dead Weather's Jack White has opened up a temporary record store in downtown Los Angeles "Third Man Records and Novelties" located at the Regent Theater and carries a bright new school bus yellow facade this week.

Along with the temporary store opening selling the White Stripes, Ranconteurs and the Dead Weather merchandise, the band will also be performing at the shop today at noon on first come first served basis. One lucky fan will also be treated to the band's final "golden ticket" by purchasing a copy of the Dead Weather's new album Horehound that also enters them into a contest to win a grand prize tour of the Nashville store. The shop opens at 10:00am today with the Dead Weather performance to follow at noon so get your spot now and catch the Dead Weather free at the Regent Theater!
